What Is the Process for Interior House Painting?
Some tasks seem much simpler than they are, and interior house painting is one of these tasks. It may seem easy to paint your walls and ceilings, but experienced, reputable interior house painters know that paying attention to a number of details affects the quality and longevity of their work.
- Preparation cannot be underestimated. If there are holes or cracks in the drywall, they should be filled or patched before painting. If dust has accumulated along trim pieces, it will need to be removed. Tape and special processes may be needed to ensure crisp, clean lines or to protect areas that are not to be painted.
- The quality of the paint is extremely important. There are many types and brands of paint available, but experienced interior house painters know which products work best for each client’s specific needs. For example, water and other stains require a stain blocking primer. Cleaning, sanding and priming may also be needed to ensure proper adhesion on trim, doors and cabinets. Or if the wall has an oily film, which is a problem painters encounter in many kitchens.
- Cover plates for light switches and outlets should be removed rather than painted over or masked. This ensures cleaner lines and better visual appeal. It may also be necessary to remove certain types of lighting fixtures, etc.
- Whenever necessary, we use dropcloths, paper, plastic and tape to protect furniture, floors, countertops, and other fixtures and furnishings that cannot be completely removed from the room.
- We choose the right application method for the task. There are three basic methods: rollers, brushes and sprayers. Sprayers are often used for cabinets, trim, doors, new construction or vacant rental properties. Brushes are typically used for cut-ins, but they may also be used for highly textured surfaces, including masonry surfaces. Like most interior house painters, we prefer rollers for large, flat, relatively smooth surfaces.
- We keep the site clean throughout the process. At the end of the day, we perform a final cleaning and remove all our materials.
- Our work does not end once the final drop of paint has been applied. Most of the paints we choose carry a manufacturer's warranty that can be 25 years or longer. However, we offer a guarantee on our workmanship that can be as long as five years. Since a manufacturer's warranty only covers a defect in the paint, having a contractor's warranty is very important. We will call you about a year after we complete your home painting project to see whether you are still satisfied with our work, but if you have any problems before or after we call, do not hesitate to contact us.
